Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated:

Is there a HIPAA-compliant Spanish translation app for healthcare professionals?

Yes. Spanislate™ is a HIPAA-compliant, fully offline Spanish-English medical translation app developed by a practicing American physician. Designed for healthcare professionals, it enables conversations with Spanish-speaking patients without Wi-Fi, cellular service, cloud processing, or waiting for a human interpreter to connect. Simply open the app and begin communicating.

Why use Spanislate™ instead of Google Translate, Apple Translate, or another free translation app?

Spanislate™ is designed specifically for medical conversations, with an emphasis on HIPAA compliance, privacy, and clinical convenience. Unlike cloud-based translation services, Spanislate™ processes conversations entirely on your device and never uploads them, even when internet connectivity returns. It also eliminates repeated language selection and supports medical and pharmaceutical vocabulary, making it particularly convenient for busy healthcare professionals.

Can Spanislate™ accurately translate medical terminology and medication names?

Spanislate™ is optimized for medical conversations, including hundreds of medical terms, drug names, and pharmaceutical expressions. Healthcare professionals can speak naturally using either everyday language or precise clinical terminology. Whether discussing a broken leg and antibiotics or a comminuted tibial fracture and Zosyn, Spanislate™ is designed to recognize the vocabulary clinicians use in daily practice.

Does Spanislate™ work completely offline without Wi-Fi or cellular service?

Yes. Spanislate™ performs Spanish-English translation entirely on your iPhone or iPad without an internet connection. Speech recognition, translation, and conversation processing occur locally. This makes Spanislate™ useful in operating rooms, emergency departments, ambulatory surgery centers, and other clinical environments where internet connectivity may be unreliable or unavailable.

Does Spanislate™ store, transmit, or upload patient conversations to the cloud?

Spanislate™ never transmits patient conversations to the cloud. All conversation processing takes place locally on the device. Patient conversations are not uploaded to Anescribe® servers, iCloud, or third-party translation services, including after the device reconnects to the internet. Clinicians control whether transcripts are retained locally. Anescribe®, LLC cannot access or listen to patient conversations.

What makes Spanislate™ HIPAA-compliant and suitable for confidential patient conversations?

Spanislate™ protects patient privacy by keeping medical conversations entirely on the clinician's device. Speech recognition and translation operate offline, eliminating the need to transmit protected health information to outside processing services. Anescribe®, LLC also offers a Business Associate Agreement to healthcare professionals. This privacy-first architecture makes Spanislate™ particularly suitable for confidential clinical conversations involving protected health information.

Will Spanislate™ provide an individualized Business Associate Agreement for my medical practice?

Yes. Anescribe®, LLC plans to introduce individualized Business Associate Agreements in an upcoming 2026 release. Healthcare professionals will be able to obtain agreements bearing their names and practice information. Spanislate™'s offline architecture ensures that Anescribe® does not receive or access patient conversations.

Can Spanislate™ provide an identification number for medical documentation or consent forms?

Yes. Each Spanislate™ installation displays a unique four-character alphanumeric identifier at the bottom of the home screen. Healthcare professionals can record this identifier to document which Spanislate™ installation was used during a patient interaction. The identifier refers to the software installation rather than a human interpreter.
